    A Message From The Principal

    Dear Parents and Families,

Greetings and Happy New Year!  Thanks to all of our families for their heartfelt recognition of our teachers and staff before the winter break.  Your recognition of our work does not go unnoticed.  Our goal is always to provide the very best in educational experiences for your children, and your partnership is critical.  As much as you appreciate all that we do, we understand that the work starts at home.  Thanks for sending us such happy, curious children, ready to learn and grow.  We appreciate you too!

We have much to look forward to in January.  Beginning this month our school community will actively re-engage in the One Program work.  We are excited for the opportunity to explore programming options and interests that will enhance our students’ learning experience at Graham Hill.

Our first One Program community meeting will be on January 31, 2020, at 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm (Graham Hill’s Library).  Interpreters  (Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Tagalog) will be available to support families.

It is truly the community, parents, and staff partnering and working together that allows us to maintain the successes we have so long enjoyed here at Graham Hill.

    Dear Parents and Families,

Graham Hill Assistant Principal Hiring Update

Graham Hill Elementary has completed three rounds of interviewing applicants for our assistant principal position.  At this time the hiring team has not selected an applicant to move forward in the hiring process.  Therefore, we are currently conducting additional screenings and interviews will be conducted at a date yet to be determined.  In the meantime, our school district will be working with Graham Hill to secure additional administrative support while we continue our search for an assistant principal.  More information to come.

    Robo Call Update

I’m convening a task force to figure out how we would like to use Robo Call at Graham Hill.  Please send me an email if you would like to serve on this task force by Friday, October 18, 2019.

    Dear Parents and Families,

It is hard to believe it is October already!  Students have settled into their new classrooms and new friendships have been formed.  It is exciting to visit the classrooms and see the growth our students have made in such a short time period.

As we journey together, we need to remember that our goal is the same, the best education for all our students.  We need to be thankful for each one’s contribution, no matter how big or small, as every contribution is valued and important to our growth as a school community.  As we celebrate our school successes throughout the year, I encourage us to always be thankful for our school, our community, our friends and families.  Let us be thankful for what we can offer and what we can accomplish as a team.

Attendance at school is very important.  When students arrive late or are picked up before dismissal, teaching and learning are disrupted.  Please make every effort to have your child in school from 7:55-2:25 each day.

This past summer the SPS “Seattle Super Readers” kicked off the program by encouraging students to read for 20 minutes a day throughout the summer.  To continue the support for this initiative one of our goals at GH is for all students reading at grade level by third grade, especially our 3rd grade African-American boys/youth.  As a community we are embracing this ambitious reading movement and using a variety of strategies to ignite literacy at Graham Hill

The PTA for our school site is wonderful.  Any and all help is always appreciated with our school’s fundraising events and other activities.  Once again, we appreciate all your efforts to support our school.   The administration and staff would like to thank all the support that has been devoted to our children from the Graham Hill PTA Officers and members.  It has been great.

    Respectfully,

    Principal Nesbitt

    Dear Parents and Families,

On behalf of the staff at Graham Hill Elementary, I am happy to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she/they:

    1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience

    2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers

    3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills

    4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her/their school life

    5) Informs you if he/she/they needs additional support in any area or subject

    6) Knows that you expect him/her/they to succeed in school

Please consider joining our school volunteer program and/or PTA as our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and its operations. We seek volunteers to help us with the following activities:

    1) Reading with children who need extra help

    2) School-wide events

    3) Student recognition events

    4) Outreach and recruitment of parent and community volunteers

As your Principal, it is important to me that everyone who steps through our doors-teachers, students and parents-are excited to be here!  This attitude enables us to meet the challenges of academic excellence in a positive, fun, and nurturing environment.  My door is always open and I welcome your input.  Please feel free to call or email me to discuss any concerns you might have throughout the school year.

    Sincerely,

    Principal Nesbitt
